An Autumn monsoon rainstorm creates a double rainbow over Delicate Arch, an ancient sandstone formation in the backcountry of Arches National Park, near Moab, Utah. Under the rainbow in the background on the left are the snowcapped peaks of the Manti La Sal Mountains. The arch is one of the most popular landmarks in Arches National Park and is seen by tens of thousands of visitors each year. However, most of them arrive in full daylight and don't get to see the beautiful late afternoon/early light that turns Delicate Arch a delectable bourbon brown at sunset.
A native of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Buddy Mays, simply put, is a photographer of interesting things. His black and white and color photographs, taken in sixty countries on six continents, have appeared in thousands of publications throughout North America and Europe. He has won numerous national and international photography awards, and several of his images reside in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC. He was a finalist for a Pulitzer Prize in Feature Photography in 1977 for a presentation about American Cowboys, and in 2009 he was selected by Digital Photographer Magazine as one of the best sixty wildlife photographers in the world.
